As I sit here working on some photos from last year (that a client is ordering more prints of) I am thinking about what I was doing this time a year ago... Last Spring I didn't have much on my calendar for the summer ahead of me. To be honest, I was a little nervous as I was investing a lot into my business and nearly had an empty calendar for the months to come. Exactly one year ago today, on May 1st, I made fliers and went around door-to-door handing them out in Owosso Michigan. Out of the thick stack of flyers, I landed one whole job! I was pretty excited for this job, and today these photos are displayed on a company’s billboard. It is beyond humbling and rewarding looking back on these past 365 days. If you would have told me (the boy hitting the pavement with a stack of papers) it would have played out this way, I wouldn't have believed you. As I sit at my computer today, I am crazy busy wrapping up senior orders, have a full week with several photo sessions booked every day this week, and have my summer calendar filling up quicker than I would have ever imagined. Not to mention I was able to check major things off my bucket list, was named one of the top 100 Senior Portrait Photographers in the Nation. I was also published in a few worldwide magazine publications, plus was able to partner in another business adventure!
Little did I know when I was hoofing it on the sidewalks passing out flyers; soon my business would take off like wild fire! Throughout all this happening I have met a bunch of amazing people and have been able to capture countless memories.
I don't think it is a coincidence that I happened to stumble upon the flyer I made and handed out exactly a year ago today. I believe this is a guiding force not only reminding me to look back and be thankful for all that I accomplished and is the perfect reminder of humble beginnings, but is also a foreshadowing of the incredible summer (and beyond) to come!
I am sharing this not just to tell you what an unbelievable “year” I have had, but in hopes you too will take a second out of your day to look back and reflect on all that you have accomplished. What were you doing a year ago today? Look how far you have come and use that as inspiration and momentum to fuel your future goals. Always remember to celebrate your accomplishments no matter how big or small, be thankful and push on my friend!
